3-DAY UDAIPUR ITINERARY

I recently travelled to Udaipur with my sister. It was a short weekend trip to the Venice of the East. We wanted to explore everything from palaces to lakes and cafes. It took some planning, but we were able to create a 3-day Udaipur itinerary. During this trip, we visited only Udaipur, not neighbouring towns and cities. But if you have more time, you can take day trips to Kumbhalgarh, Chittorgarh, and Haldighati.

If you are short on time but don’t want to miss out on exploring this beautiful city of lakes, refer to this 3-day Udaipur itinerary.

*NOTE:- :- I have not counted travel days in this itinerary.

DAY 1

Breakfast at Rainbow cafe. It is a small rooftop cafe overlooking Pichola Lake. After a heavy breakfast, walk to the Jagdish Mandir.

The Jagdish Mandir is a beautiful temple with intricate carvings on the temple’s outer walls. You can visit the temple en route to or from the City Palace, a few metres away.

Then walk over to the City Palace, the former residence of the royal family. It takes 2-3 hours to your the entire Palace. You can hire a guide to take you around the Palace.

Lunch is at the Jhadoka restaurant at Jagat Niwas Palace. Enjoy a delicious meal while sitting at one of the jharokas offering views of the Pichola.

The Bagore ki haveli, a museum, is next. Marvel at the weapons, learn about royal wedding customs and traditions and enjoy beautiful views of the Pichola.

Next, visit the Gangaur Ghat, adjacent to Bagore ki Haveli. It is one of the famous ghats in Udaipur. The Gangaur festival takes place here yearly. Also, it is a crowd favourite for sunsets.

Later take the ropeway to Karni Mata temple. The temple sits on a hill and offers expansive views of Udaipur.

End the day at Ambrai Ghat, another beautiful ghat. It is a peaceful place opposite the City Palace.

Reserve a table at Hot Sarovar’s Shamiana restaurant. It is a rooftop restaurant with live bands on the weekends.

DAY 2

Breakfast at Jheel’s Ginger Coffee Bar and cafe. A tiny place on the banks of the Pichola. It has delicious but limited food options and is great for photos.

Start the day by visiting Sajjangarh, the monsoon palace. Most people prefer the evening time to travel to Sajjangarh. But if you want fewer crowds, the morning is the best time.

Next, visit the Ahar Cenotaphs. There is no fixed opening time, so try to come after 10:30-11 am. It is a beautiful place for a photo op.

Lunch at Khamma Ghani restaurant, known for its Mewari cuisine.

Next visit the Saheliyon ki Badi. It is a garden with beautiful fountains and well-groomed gardens. If you want you can enjoy a picnic in the gardens.

Spend the evening at Bahubali hills, a few kilometres away. It is a spot atop a hill surrounded by Badi Lake on three sides. It is a 25-30 minutes hike to the top.

Reserve a table at Hotel Amet Haveli’s Ambrai restaurant. It is next to Ambrai Ghat. Enjoy drinks and a candlelight dinner.

DAY 3

Breakfast at Cafe Edelweiss. It is a small place serving mouth-watering goodies.

Purchase tickets for a boat ride on Pichola Lake with a stop at Jagmandir. It is a 30-45 minutes ride. You can take the boat from the City Palace dock or the Udaipur municipal boat service.

Lunch at Upre restaurant. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the corridor tables overlooking Pichola Lake.

Later, travel to Eklingji temple. It is a beautiful 8th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also, visit the Saas Bahu temple near Eklingji temple.

Spend the rest of the day shopping for souvenirs, bags, clothes and more.

In the evening, visit Fateh Sagar Lake. Stroll around the lake, enjoy snacks from small stalls and watch the water change colours from yellow to orange to purple as the sun sets.

Later, attend the traditional Dharohar dance show at Bagore ki Haveli. The show starts at 7 pm and ends at 8 pm.

Dinner at Harigarh restaurant. Reserve a table at the jharokas. Like most cafes and restaurants, Harigarh overlooks the Pichola.

That concludes the 3-day Udaipur itinerary. If you have more time, you can go on day trips to Haldighati, Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh. Below is the extended itinerary.

DAY 4

Breakfast at Millets of Mewar. Start the day late. Later, head to Haldighati.

Drive through the historical mountain pass of Haldighati. Visit the Maharana Pratap museum and Chetak Cenotaph. Travel to Badshahi Bagh, where the battle of Haldighati took place.

Lunch at one of the restaurants in Haldighati. Shop for Chaitri Rose products like rose water and gulkand. Purchase Terra cotta arts and crafts at the Balicha village.

DAY 5

Breakfast at Cafe Boho, a rooftop restaurant with views of Pichola Lake.

Hire a cab for the day to drive you to and from Chittorgarh. It is a 2-3 hour drive to Chittorgarh fort. Hire a guide and explore the fort. It takes a few hours to drive around to various spots.

Lunch at one of the restaurants in Chittorgarh or any highway dhabas.

Head back to Udaipur. Relax at the hotel before heading to Savage Garden restaurant for dinner. It is a rooftop restaurant best known for its homemade pasta.

DAY 6

Breakfast at Cafe La Comida. It is one of the few places to open early at 7:30 am. Start early because Kumbhalgarh fort is 2-3 hours away. It takes another 3 hours to explore this beautiful place.

Lunch at one of the restaurants near Kumbhalgarh fort or the highway dhabas.

Return to Udaipur in the evening. Relax at the hotel before heading to dinner.

And that includes the 6-day Udaipur itinerary. You can change the itinerary to suit you.

CONCLUSION

Many people wonder how many days are needed to explore Udaipur. I think 5-6 days are sufficient to explore the city and neighbouring towns and cities. If you are short on time, three days are enough to explore this beautiful city. I have posted both the 6-day and 3-day Udaipur itinerary.
