8 TRAVEL TIPS FOR UDAIPUR

Whenever you or I imagine the perfect holiday, it is always without problems. However, that rarely happens. No trip or holiday is without mishaps. But with proper preparations, we can always minimise the trouble. In Udaipur, I talked to a few travellers and tourists. After listening to their experiences, I realised many tourists face the same problems. So, I decided to make a list of travel tips for Udaipur.

This article is a part of the Udaipur travel guide. There are other posts on cafes and restaurants in Udaipur, places to see, and itineraries.

TRAVEL TIPS FOR UDAIPUR

  1. Those travelling by air or train should book hotels near Hanuman Ghat, Gangaur Ghat or City Palace. Why? Because most of the attractions are within walking distance from these Ghats. It will help you save money on autos. And there are many cafes and restaurants near these areas. So, you have plenty of dining options within a few metres.
  2. Those who are self-driving should book hotels in the new city, away from City Palace, Gangaur Ghat or Hanuman Ghat. Why? Because the lanes in the Udaipur are narrow and too small for vehicles. Also, many hotels near the ghats don’t have parking facilities. You will have to park your cars far away in a parking lot without security.
  3. Avoid travelling to Udaipur on weekends. It is too crowded, and prices are higher than usual.
  4. Always try and negotiate when hiring autos. Inform them of all the places you wish to visit. Hire rickshaws for full or half days. That way, it is cheaper.
  5. Visit the City Palace at 9:30 am when it opens. It is the best time for photos without any interruptions. The crowds start arriving after 10 am. Also, don’t hire a guide unless you are interested in a history lesson. There are signs everywhere to guide you so you won’t get lost.
  6. Always reserve your tables for dinner. Many restaurants and cafes have no tables for walk-ins in the evenings. Or best, visit your favourite eateries in the afternoon when people are out sightseeing.
  7. Many cafes and restaurants in Udaipur have a “no work from home” policy. It means you cannot work on your laptops while sitting in the cafes.
  8. On weekends, after 5 pm, the roads around Gangaur ghat and Hanuman ghat are closed to cars.

CONCLUSION

No trip is possible without something going wrong. But that’s the best part of travelling. It’s moments like these that make the journey memorable. In this article, I have listed the most common problems. If you think I missed anything, let me know in the comments.

I hope this ignites your wanderlust because

Sometimes the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn’t mean to take.
