ABOUT KASHELI BEACH
I saw a video about Kasheli beach and immediately included it in my travel destinations list. Recently I took a road trip to Bhogave beach with an overnight stay in Ratnagiri. That’s when I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Kasheli beach.
Kasheli beach, also known as Devghali beach, is a secluded seashore 40 km from Ratnagiri. Surrounded by steep mountains on three sides, Kasheli beach resembles a crescent moon.
Unlike most beaches in Kokan, you walk down the mountain to reach the shore. A new paved path runs down one cliff. However, the last section is incomplete. You have to navigate over a few boulders to get to the bottom.
Kasheli beach is a secluded area with few people. Scattered across the golden shore are boulders, thus making swimming hard. But despite the rocky shoreline, Kasheli beach is a beautiful example of nature’s creation.
The beach has a table point that is a must-visit. From here, visitors can enjoy aerial views of the entire beach and the Arabian Sea. It is a great place to witness the sunset. Another attraction is the cave on the opposite mountain. I wanted to explore the cave, but it was high and hard to reach.
The beach is often busy during the day. Try to visit after 3 pm to avoid crowds.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Kasheli beach is 330 km from Pune and is a 7-8 hours drive. The best way to Kasheli is by road.
According to Google maps, there are two routes to Kasheli beach. One is via Mahabaleshwar, and the other is via Satara. The Mahabaleshwar road is a hilly area and takes longer. The Satara road is a national highway and is quicker.
The other way to reach Kasheli is by taking the bus. Several private and government buses travel from Pune to Ratnagiri. From here, hire a taxi or an autorickshaw to Kasheli beach.
The next mode of transportation is by train. Kokan railway, as the name suggests, runs along the Kokan coast. You can also hop on other trains to reach Ratnagiri train station, the closest to Kasheli beach.
NOTE:- The lack of signboards and markers makes finding the beach troublesome. No worries! The locals are helpful and will point you in the right direction.
BEST TIME TO VISIT KASHELI BEACH
Vitamin sea is always a good time, except during monsoons. Mountains surround Kasheli beach, making it dangerous to visit during the rains. The beach is closed during the rainy months because the sea is rough.
March to May is summer and a great time to visit the beach. The only issue is the high temperature. It gets hot and humid during the day. Also, it’s the summer holidays. The beach can get crowded.
Winter months are the best time to visit the beach. The temperature is moderate and pleasant. Also, if you avoid major holidays, you can avoid crowds. And the hotel prices are low.
WHERE TO STAY?
Kasheli beach is in Kasheli village. You can find a few homestay options in the area, but Ratnagiri, 38 km away, has more choices.
Ratnagiri is a big city with homestays, hotels and a few resorts. I stayed at the Dio Regaaloo theme park in Ratnagiri. It is an hour’s drive to Kasheli beach.
Dio Regaalo theme park has two areas- a water park and a hotel. The two sections are separated. Since it’s a theme park, each room is different, for example, the Bengal suite. The Bengal suite portrays Bengali culture.
Dio Regaalo theme park in Ratnagiri is an enjoyable place to stay.
TRAVEL TIPS
- When travelling to Kasheli beach, carry plenty of water and snacks. There are 2-3 stalls selling snacks and drinks. But they may be closed. So be prepared.
- If you want to avoid crowds, early morning or late afternoon is the best time to visit.
- Avoid visiting the beach during the rainy season. The sea is rough.
- Unlike in Goa, you won’t find bikes for hire in Kokan. So you have to walk, ride the bus or hire a taxi.
- Don’t expect to find 5-star hotels in Kokan. It is still a quiet coastal belt with slow development. Big cities have better housing options than small villages.
IS KASHELI BEACH WORTH VISITING?
Kasheli beach is a beautiful place and worth visiting. If you are searching for a quiet and secluded seashore, Kasheli beach fits that description.
As I mentioned earlier, I recently travelled to Ratnagiri and visited Kasheli beach en route to Bhogave beach. I loved spending time at Kasheli beach. It was marvellous. But is it worth travelling so far to visit only Kasheli beach?
For some people, the answer is an immediate yes. But for many, it is a no. If you belong to the first category, travel here before the beach becomes renowned. Those belonging to the second category, don’t be discouraged. On your next trip to Ratnagiri, take a day trip to Kasheli beach. Spend the day enjoying the beach.
To conclude, Kasheli beach is a beach worth visiting.
