O’COQUEIRO RESTAURANT, DIU – REVIEW
During my recent travels to Diu, I had lunch at O’Coqueiro restaurant. I was in Diu for only a day and wanted to make the most of it. So, after googling the best restaurants in Diu, O’Coqueiro popped up. It had over two thousand reviews, and most of them sang praises.
After sightseeing, O’Coqueiro restaurant is the best place to refuel. It is the best place for seafood and Portuguese curry.
Here’s a little glimpse into O’Coqueiro.
ABOUT O’COQUEIRO
It is a small restaurant run by a family in their backyard. The family runs the entire operation– cooking and serving.
The restaurant can accommodate up to 20-25 people.
It is a simple establishment with the tables and chairs fenced in by trees and climbers. All the greenery gives the illusion of having entered a secret garden.
O’Coqueiro is a quiet and serene place with homey vibes. Also, the friendly owners make you feel at home.
I visited the restaurant for a late lunch around 2:30 p.m. Due to the late hour and it being off-season, there were no patrons. So, my family was the only one there. It was good because we had a chance to interact with the owners.
The owners were helpful and attentive. I didn’t know what to order when they recommended their Prawn in Portuguese gravy with rice.
The food, ambience, and service were good. I recommend visiting here at least once during your stay in Diu.
But where is the famous O’Coqueiro restaurant?
WHERE IS O’COQUEIRO?
It is a small restaurant in a residential area. The restaurant is one street over from the Diu Museum. It is a 2-minute drive from Diu Museum and 5 minutes from INS Khukri Ship.
Search “O’Coqueiro Diu” on Google Maps for the exact location. There is another restaurant of the same name in Goa. So recheck, you’re searching for the one in Diu.
ADDRESS:- PX8Q+8HC, near diu museum, firangiwala, road, Diu, 362520.
The restaurant is in a residential area, so there is no parking facility. You can park bikes along the roadside outside the entrance. But you have to park cars a few metres away. There is a triangular space between the crossroads.
NOTE:- Avoid parking cars on the narrow road because it can cause traffic jams.
Now that you know where to go, the next thing on the agenda is – what’s on the menu?
WHAT’S ON O’COQUEIRO’S MENU?
O’Coqueiro has an elaborate breakfast menu and a limited lunch and dinner menu. They serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian(seafood) items.
I didn’t see any gluten-free and vegan items on the menu.
Their Portuguese gravy dishes come highly recommended. I had the Prawns in Portuguese gravy with rice. And the fried fish, for starters.
The Portuguese gravy didn’t appear spicy, but it packed heat. I don’t usually eat spicy food, but I would eat this dish again.
Each dish on the menu serves one person. It is a good thing when you’re travelling in a group. You can order a variety of things off the menu.
The fried fish has three whole fishes with a side of salad. I don’t remember what fish it was. Maybe it was a local catch.
After the main course, I wanted to try one of their shakes, but my stomach was bursting at the seams. So, I decided to forgo the shake.
The fried King Prawns with a side of salad is another popular dish. A single plate has 5-6 king prawns. I didn’t try this dish, but I saw photos. My mouth was watering just looking at the picture.
If you’re looking for homey vibes and good seafood, O’Coqueiro is the place.
WHEN IS O’COQUEIRO OPEN?
O’Coqueiro is open daily from Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Even if you go for a late lunch, they will serve you with a smiling face.
IS O’COQUEIRO PRICEY?
O’Coqueiro is not pricey. But depending on what you order, it can seem costly. If you order the fried king prawns, it will cost you Rs.1000 per plate.
It will cost around Rs.1500 for two people.
CONCLUSION
My final rating for O’Coqueiro restaurant is 3.5 stars. They have good food, homey vibes, simple interiors and good service.
If you’re searching for a good place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, look no further than O’Coqueiro. It is a short drive from most of the tourist attractions in Diu. So, you can refuel at O’Coqueiro restaurant and resume sightseeing without travelling far.
