SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS IN NORTH GOA
Today’s blog post is about my favourite seafood restaurants in North Goa.
Goa is one of my favourite beach destinations to visit with my family. I know many people won’t agree with that statement. Almost everyone prefers visiting Goa with friends. But I prefer my family. Why? That’s because there’s no limited budget, daily shopping sprees, hotels on the beach, and delicious seafood every day. So what’s not to like?
Every year, my family spontaneously plans a trip to Goa. And it’s tradition to dine at different restaurants each time we visit. I have dined at numerous restaurants in North Goa over the years. But here’s a list of my favourite seafood restaurants in North Goa.
- Anand Seafood restaurant and bar
- Vinayak family restaurant
- Fat Fish
- Ritz Classic
- The Curry House
- Fish Hut beach shack
ANAND SEAFOOD RESTAURANT AND BAR
I discovered Anand a few years back. After visiting my favourite places, my family wanted to eat at a different restaurant. That’s how I came across Anand restaurant.
Since then, I’ve been dining at Anand every time I travel to North Goa.
Anand Seafood restaurant and bar is a popular establishment and is constantly busy (especially on weekends).
INTERIORS
Anand is away from the hustle and bustle of the beach. It is on a narrow road adjacent to the fields. The brick building has two seating areas. One is the bar seating, and the other is an open space. It has simple interiors, nothing fancy.
STAFF AND SERVICE
Anand is always busy, especially during weekends, summer and winter vacations. Despite the lunch rush hour, the staff provides quick service. If you’re here during the lunch rush, place your entire order in one go. It will save you time later trying to flag down a server.
FOOD
If you are craving seafood, head to Anand. Everything on the seafood menu is yummy. Their fish curry thali is a crowd favourite. Their chicken is fresh and tender. Also, their vegetarian food is delicious. Most non-veg restaurants disregard their vegetarian menu. But that’s not the case here. The food is so flavourful that you will forget what’s happening around you.
PARKING
They have plenty of parking space. You can park your vehicles in front of the restaurant or opposite the road. They don’t have a watchman. So park at your own risk.
TIMINGS:- The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm to 11 pm. It is closed on Mondays.
LOCATION:- House 1451/1, Malbar Band, Anjuna, Goa.
VINAYAK FAMILY RESTAURANT
I didn’t know about Vinayak until a couple of years ago. If I had to choose my favourite from the list of seafood restaurants in North Goa, it would be the Vinayak family restaurant.
I was on my way to Anand for lunch when someone informed me it was closed (they are closed on Monday). So, after a quick Google search, I decided to eat at Vinayak.
And I’m glad Anand restaurant was closed that day. Or I would have missed out on this jewel.
INTERIORS
The restaurant is on a small country road with fields on one side and a building complex on the other. It is the extension of the owner’s house. It has simple wooden interiors. The seating area reminds me of an open patio.
STAFF AND SERVICE
If you visit during the lunch rush (1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.), you might have to wait a while to be seated. The staff operates the lunch rush expertly and provides quick service.
I once visited here around 2:30 p.m., during rush hour. After waiting for fifty minutes, we were finally seated. Fifteen minutes later, they brought out our orders. Some orders take a while to prepare. So order accordingly.
I learnt my lesson, so I came early, around 1 p.m., and we were seated immediately. No waiting.
FOOD
The first time I was here, I ordered the Kingfish thali. The thali consists of rice, crabs, shells, a veg sabji (french beans), dried prawns, a fish fillet, kokum, and prawns curry. The crabs were sweet and juicy. It was my first time eating shells, and I loved it. Also, don’t forget to try the kokum soda and Rawa prawns. Delicious!!! The food was worth the long wait. Also, their vegetarian menu is equally delicious.
TRAVEL TIP:- Thalis are available only for lunch.
PARKING
They have ample parking space behind the restaurant and the building next door. They have watchmen, so rest assured.
TIMINGS:- The restaurant is open from Friday to Wednesday from noon (12 p.m.) to 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. They are closed on Thursdays.
LOCATION:- House No 278, Socol Vaddo, Assagao, Goa 403507
FAT FISH
Fat Fish is another one of my favourite seafood restaurants in North Goa. I have been here numerous times.
So many times en route to Goa, I have delayed stopping for lunch. Just so that I can eat at Fat Fish.
Fat Fish is my second favourite from the list of seafood restaurants in North Goa.
If you’re craving delicious seafood (or chicken or vegetarian), don’t forget to visit Fat Fish.
Fat Fish is a popular restaurant, so always expect a queue, especially during the lunch rush. I assure you the food is worth the wait.
INTERIORS
My impression of Fat Fish was that it resembles a fancy beach shack. It is an open space with tables and chairs and a bar at one end. It is low-key and has laid-back vibes. Fat Fish is ideal for a relaxed lunch with friends and family.
STAFF AND SERVICE
Good things come to those who wait. The service is a bit slow, like most Goan restaurants. It takes time to prepare your food. The staff is caring and accommodating.
FOOD
Good food and huge servings. If you are craving authentic Goan seafood, then Fat Fish it is. I loved their Prawns butter garlic and Kingfish Tawa fry. They are the perfect appetizers. Follow that up with Goan fish curry and rice. I haven’t eaten it, but I’ve heard praises about the “Stuff Crab“.
NOTE:- If you’re unsure what to order (because everything on the menu is delicious), ask your server for their day’s special or catch.
PARKING
The restaurant has ample parking space. During weekends, the parking lot gets packed. So, you have to park your vehicle on the roadside.
TIMINGS:- They are open from Monday to Sunday from noon (12 p.m.) to 1 a.m.
LOCATION:- Calangute – Arpora Rd, Agar Vaddo, Bardez, Khobra Waddo, Arpora, Baga, Goa 403516
RITZ CLASSIC
The Ritz Classic restaurant is my new favourite.
During my recent travels to Goa, I went to Ritz Classic for lunch. It is one of the renowned seafood joints in Panjim. If you’re looking for great food, you can trust Ritz Classic to deliver just that.
NOTE:- There are a couple of Ritz Classic restaurants in Panjim.
INTERIORS
When Google Maps declared I had arrived at my destination, I thought I was in the wrong place. The building was a bit shabby, but you know what they say. Never judge a book by its cover. Just past the dry fruit shop is a small gate that leads to the restaurant on the first floor. You can take the stairs or the elevator.
The restaurant is compact, and the tables are close to each other. Simple and tasteful interiors decorate the restaurant. Also, the overhead AC units provide much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
NOTE:- If you’re a large group, it might take a while to be seated during the lunch rush.
STAFF AND SERVICE
I arrived at Ritz Classic around 2 p.m. A group had just vacated a table, so we were seated immediately. The servers were constantly bustling around. I recommend placing your entire order because later (during the lunch rush), it’s difficult to flag down a server.
FOOD
I recommend ordering the Fish Thali. It is more than fulfilling. I could hardly move after eating. Their chicken biryani, chicken tandoori are delicious as well. Vegetarian options are just as good.
PARKING
The restaurant doesn’t have a private parking space. You will have to find space along the roadside to park your vehicles. Ensure you don’t park in the no parking zone.
TIMINGS:- The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
LOCATION:- Building, 1st Floor, Wagle Vision, 18th June Rd, Ozari, Panaji, Goa 403001
THE CURRY HOUSE
Last year, during my 4-day stay, I visited the Curry House every day, either for lunch or dinner. It was my new favourite seafood restaurant. So, this year, I revisited.
Upon arriving at the Curry House, I thought I was in the wrong place. They have changed the entire place.
INTERIORS
The earlier interiors had a classic feeling and a chilled-out vibe. It reminded me of a bonfire with friends and soft music playing in the background. There was never a dull moment.
The new interiors remind me of a fancy cafe. I preferred the old interior. Anyway, I’ve included the Curry House on the list for food, not for its interiors.
STAFF AND SERVICE
The staff is cheerful and attentive and greet guests with a smile. It is one of the reasons I kept coming back. The service is quick. And they also have talented singers perform all day on weekends.
FOOD
The food was as good as I remember. So that was a relief. The chapattis are soft, and the butter rotis are dripping with butter. The chicken is tender. I recommend trying the chicken tandoori and the Goan fish curry.
PARKING
The restaurant is on a busy street. They have ample parking space for two-wheelers. But, they have limited space for four-wheelers. You may have to parallel park your vehicles on the road opposite the restaurant. It is not an issue during weekdays when there are few tourists.
TIMINGS:- They are open from Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.
LOCATION:- Fort Aguada Rd, Candolim, Goa 403515
FISH HUT (BEACH SHACK)
Last year, I visited the Fish Hut. It is a cosy beach shack between the Sinquerim and Candolim beaches.
If you want a quiet candlelight dinner, visit Fish Hut.
There are other shacks nearby if you want to dine someplace else. Fish Hut was within walking distance of our hotel, so we went there. We had randomly selected this beach shack, but the food was tasty.
NOTE:- However, this year, I didn’t see the beach shacks on the beach. But I heard from the locals they would be up and running soon. So, if they do reopen, let me know.
INTERIORS
Fish Hut is a wooden shack with a straw roof. Some tables are in the cabin, and some are in the sand. It resembles a simple hut. But, at night, it is another story. At night, it feels as though you are at sea. And the Taj Hotel appears as the glowing shore. Also, there is a swing outside the restaurant. It is a favourite among guests and passersby.
STAFF AND SERVICE
The staff is courteous and hospitable. The service takes Goan time, meaning it takes a while. But this is Goa! Everything in Goa works at a leisurely pace. You can sit on the lounger placed outside. Or walk on the beach. Or go stargazing while they prepare your order.
FOOD
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. But I recommend having lunch or dinner.
The restaurant is known for seafood. I recommend visiting here if you like to eat seafood. Aside from seafood, their chicken tandoori is juicy and tender. Also, their vegetarian menu is tasty. Their servings are sufficient for two people. So order accordingly.
PARKING
The shack is on the beach. The nearest paid parking is near the Taj Hotel. Walk down the stairs to the beach. The restaurant is a short walk away. In the afternoon, finding a parking spot is difficult. You’ll have better luck in the evening.
TIMING:- The restaurant is open from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The closing time may differ.
LOCATION:- Beach below Taj holiday Village, Sinquerim, Candolim, Goa 403515
CONCLUSION
That ends the list of my favourite seafood restaurants in North Goa. I’m sure there are more restaurants that I haven’t been to yet. Maybe I’ll discover them on my next Goa trip.
